About the Author
Richard has worked in higher education for almost twenty years. He's won teaching awards at Purdue University and the University of Northern Iowa.
Richard earned a masters degree in exegetical theology from Western Seminary, a Ph.D. in sociology from Purdue University, and a certificate in Change Leadership from Cornell University. He has also received strengths coach training from the Gallup Organization and has completed The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Signature Program from FranklinCovey.
In addition to teaching a variety of sociology and criminal justice courses, Richard has served as a program coordinator, a department head, an associate dean, and a dean. He served as the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Dixie State University in St. George, Utah, and most recently as the Dean of Instruction at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Oregon. He currently serves as a sociology instructor at Oregon State University.
Richard has been married to Kathryn since 2001. They have two daughters, Ellie and Aubrey. As a family they enjoy visiting the beach and hiking the forests of Oregon.
